The Problem

This program was created for a client who and some very particular needs.  The program Probate Plus is used as an accounting package for Probates, Trusts, and alike.  Some accounts may have a very short life time thus the number of checks issued for that account might be quite limited.  Other accounts might have a long life but only a few checks are written.  In this case the client had to store checks.  Either way a large number of check books had to be ordered and stored.  In addition to ordering and storing large amount of checks they also had to hand write checks in addition to posting the checks in the accounting program.  This was because regular check writing systems expected either pre-printed checks or expected you to enter the check data. They couldn't use pre-printed checks because of the cost and enter the data meant double entry.

The Solution

Probate Plus is able to print checks but only on pre-printed check stock.  We created a system that was able to monitor the output from Probate Plus, intercept it, decode it, and then add all of the information including the MICR line and any other information they wished to add and then print the check on blank check stock.  They can now post their check data once, and print.  In addition they are able to print the payee's name and address on the check stub which is part of the blank check stock.  This allows them to simply fold the stock and stuff it into a windowed envelope.  So there is no need to generate an envelope or label for an envelope (includes the return address if they wish).
